Effectiveness of blue light therapy for acne reduction

acne problems plague many people throughout the world. Age, gender and social status are not obstacles to a problem that is of concern and distress for many people. The latest developments in the cures of procedure has been an increase in the popularity of alternative treatment. One such alternative, which is very effective and viable is the blue light therapy.

In the treatment of blue light (blue or photodynamic therapy), affected areas of the face are exposed to blue light from a particular source (a filament lamp with appropriate filter), without creams, drugs or any other proceeding. Since ancient times, the sun has been a cure for acne problems, and now scientists have identified the part of visible spectrum blue light called principal factor in this.

How does this treatment

Porphyrin is a substance that occurs naturally in the human body, and the results of the breakdown of hemoglobin in red blood cells. Bacteria in acne releases this substance, when exposed to light of certain wavelengths, there is damage from the destructive combination of acne bacteria, the Propionobacterium acnes (P. acnes or bacteria). The affected area of skin is exposed to high intensity blue light of a wavelength of 405-420 nm in order to do this, and is sometimes done after the application of a photosensitizing agent.

The patient is exposed to blue light for 15 to 20 minutes, usually twice a week for a period of four to six weeks. Often, after treatment with blue light, red light is also applied as shown to activate the ATP in skin cells and improve the response to treatment. Light Blue also does not cause tanning or skin burns.

Effectiveness

The FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) classifies the laser and light therapies as a treatment process oriented and considers it a safe and legal procedure that is effective in treating acne. FDA approved narrow-band high-intensity blue light therapy for this purpose.

The effectiveness of a particular treatment may differ from one person to another, and the intensity of the problem may require a custom schedule for the blue light treatment, with or without the use of photosensitizer, with different intensities of light and a treatment period which may vary from one to six weeks. However, the effectiveness has been proven through many trials and now people use the treatment, dermatologists around the world conducting periods regular sessions of treatment with blue light lamps. On average, the treatment of light produces 75% of results to 80% over a period of three months. In another test, the treatment caused the eradication of all bacteria in the pores of the skin where the light rays have been applied. In particular, when making treatment using high-intensity, narrow band 405-420 nm light has proven to be a lot faster and more efficient and affordable even to a large extent as blue light boxes can be use in the country over a longer period if necessary without adding to medical bills.

No notable side effects most cases and at present, these reactions are usually minor. These may include temporary changes in pigmentation (color) of the skin some swelling and dryness in the treated area can too.

It is now widely distributed throughout the world, this is probably the best known treatment alternative for the treatment of acne today.
